Conventional concepts prevailed here without knowing the inner meaning of such rituals are many. Meaningless rivalry between Shaivas and Vaishnavas, was one such concept.
From time immemorial SREE POORNATHRAYEESHA temple has been observing an ideal ritual to break this conventional baseless concept.Interestingly this ritual had started at a time when the state was divided as provinces.Famous Perumthrikkovil Siva temple, once belonged to Travancore province, started to conduct the Aaraattu of the Lord Siva on Thiruvaithira night at SREE POORNATHRAYEESHA temple, the family temple of Kochi Royal family.
By going a step beyond, here the presiding deity of SREE POORNATHRAYEESHA temple receives Perumthrikkovil SREE Mahadevan to the Namaskaara Mandapam to conduct a special pooja.
Devotees who have been witnessing the heart throbbing see off given by SREE POORNATHRAYEESHAN to Perumthrikkovil SREE MAHADEVAN can't even imagine about a period when Shaivas and Vaishnavaas were rivals. There lies the relevance of such divine bonds which evokes a kind of unity among the devotees.
Try to analyze more and more such divine unions happening at various temples like Aaraattupuzha Peruvanam, Vadakkumnàathan's Padinjare Gopuram ( where Thiruvambadi Bhagavathy and Paaramekkaavu Bhagavathy say bye to meet again on the next Pooram day). These are divine messages of friendship, brotherhood and what not passed to devotees from our beloved Gods and Goddesses.
This is the only festival in Kerala where deities from erstwhile Kochi kingdom ( Cochin Devaswom Board ) and Travancore kingdom ( Travancore Devaswom Board) come together.
